“Wild Roses”
by Sky Sunlight Saxon Dragonslayers SSS
1989 song
"Wild Roses" is a wind-swept psych-prog piece from Sky Sunlight Saxon Dragonslayers SSS’ album Just Imagine. It’s unlike anything else on the album or in Sky Saxon’s career. "Wild Roses" was chosen as the only single from Just Imagine, released in Germany with a picture sleeve and backed by the song "Focus Point".
"Wild Roses" is a spooky and melodramatic ode to an “enchantress” and a “lady fair”, slow and marked by a vast, escapist emptiness. It was added to Sky’s 2001 CD-r Golden Vaults Volume 1: Timeless in poor sound quality, and again to the otherwise unrelated Michael Oak collaboration Back To The Garden in 2008 as a “bonus track”. It seems Sky retained a fondness for his half-spoken warbled crooning on the "Wild Roses" until the end of his life.
