“Venus Here We Come”
by The Happy Hour Band
2002 song
On his spacier 1970s recordings with the Source Family, Sky Saxon often sang about going to Venus, which was apparently one of Father Yod’s favorite subjects. On the Happy Now album by Sky and Djin’s Happy Hour Band project, Djin returns to the theme once again on the album’s second track, "Venus Here We Come", recorded ca. 1999-2000. Sky Saxon does not appear on this song.
Musically, "Venus Here We Come" is one of the more ambitious pieces of music on the album. Built around a single, minor-key guitar figure, the repetitive track finds Djin’s vocals buried in the mix, and it is hard to make out the lyrics much of the time.
Besides the dynamic, sparkly electric guitar pattern, the bass throbs and the drums beat out a simple, meditative rhythm. As it faded in, "Venus Here We Come" fades out, lending credence to the story that this album was made up of informal jams and run-throughs of songs over a period of a year or so.
