“Tired Of Bein’ Poor”
by Stars New Seeds with Rainbow Starburst
1977 song
One of the four excellent rugged rock songs on Sky Saxon’s 1977 7″ EP on the Expression label was "Tired Of Bein' Poor". Guitarist Rainbow Neal chugs out the machine-like rhythm and takes sudden flights of fancy high on the fretboard; the effect of his distorted rock guitar is garage-y and quite psychedelic.
Sky Saxon’s usual singing-yelling is centered on his intention to “get out of here” with his dogs because the stars aren’t shining for him. As is so often the case, his passion is undeniable and his meaning is frightening while remaining largely undefined. "Tired Of Bein' Poor", which was released on different colors of vinyl as well as black, is the sound of some guys with garage-psych deep in their hearts who are going for broke.
Note that one of the CDs in the 1998 God & Hair box set lists "Tired Of Bein' Poor" but the song on the CD is actually “Drums, Stars & Guitars”. To hear "Tired Of Bein' Poor" you’ll need to get a copy of the vinyl EP.
