“Sacred Medicine”
by King Arthur's Court
2005 song
In the world of the stoned hippie musical project King Arthur’s Court, "Sacred Medicine" is a little unusual. It’s shorter and faster than the rest of the mesmerizing album A Spring Honeymoon With God & Family, for one thing. It’s full of swirling psychedelia and high-neck guitar noodling, plus echoed vocals from Djin (and, by the way, no Sky Saxon, who we imagine was blissfully “napping” nearby when this was recorded on that weekend in April 2005 in the mountains of California). The “lyrics” are made up mostly of single words or short phrases that drip with some inscrutable meaning: “Immortality… home is your heart… blessed from the start… ganja these days… jaja is the way.”
"Sacred Medicine" sounds like a two-chord punk song played at half speed by clever hippies with nice recording equipment. Which is, we suppose, exactly what it is. Highly recommended, like the rest of the album.
