“Locust”
by Fast Planet
1995 song
On the live performance captured on the Rockin' The Croc/West Coast album by Fast Planet of 1995, the band improvises a song they call "Locust". For three minutes, rapid-fire drums continue to blast out the surf pattern from “Wipe Out” while a guitar solos manically without bothering to attach itself to any one key. On top of all this chaotic noise, all peaks and no troughs, Sky chants “Locust! Locust!” and other band members occasionally help him out in this task.
"Locust" sounds as if it were inspired by something happening in the club that night; maybe someone had a t-shirt that said Locust on it, or maybe an infamous local known as Locust showed up. Whatever the case, Sky can take the credit or blame for "Locust": after a riotous "No Escape" ends it is he that says of his two drummers, “All right! We ought to cut ’em loose with a drum solo.” What follows is "Locust", a drum solo with some madness and nightmares mixed into it. Enjoy!
