“Let’s Be Lovers/YHVH All”
by The Happy Hour Band
2002 song
"Let's Be Lovers/YHVH All" is a bright and groovy extended jam from the Happy Now CD released by Djin Aquarian and Sky Saxon, and their Happy Hour Band, in 2003.
"Let's Be Lovers/YHVH All" is much poppier than the other music on this album, and seems more preplanned. Djin and Sky actually trade lead vocals, both of which are somewhat hard to hear due to their relatively low volume. They mostly consist of the phrases “let’s be lovers”.
Most of "Let's Be Lovers/YHVH All" is built on a jangly two-chord guitar pattern from Djin, though there is, atypically, a separate chorus as well.
Eventually the band swoops into a dramatic, minor-key side trip that approaches a sound not unlike early R.E.M. Djin takes total control of the lead vocals around this time, even as the song morphs back into the original theme and then back again.
Most dramatically, Djin is joined by Sky as they both growl a chant honoring YaHoWha — i.e., Yod He Vav He, or the “YHVH” of the title. Sky channels himself from the Yodship sessions as he warbles about his “father” before the song fades out mid-performance.
All in all, "Let's Be Lovers/YHVH All" is pretty mind-blowing.
