“Just The Other Day”
by Sky Sunlight Saxon and Flights
2006 song
Sweeter and more welcoming than much of the rest of the album, the song "Just The Other Day" from Tyrants In The House finds Sky Saxon reflecting on the past. Memories; nothing has created more emotional looking-back songs than memories.
Sky Saxon, though, didn’t often concern himself with such matters. He seemed to use the Sky Sunlight Saxon and Flights project with Ken Dembinski as a means to explore some new things in his career – new subject matter, new ways of creating music tracks, even new ways of singing.
And so "Just The Other Day" gives us a Sky Saxon gazing back through time, lost in a cloud and name-checking Ya Ho Wha but also Sgt. Pepper in his lyrics. The music shrinks back from the front of the stage; all is somber and pensive. And, it must be said, rather inviting.
