“I Believe”
by The Seeds
2008 song
Everyone joins in on vocals for the minimalist R.E.M.-ish "I Believe" from the 2008 CD Back To The Garden. (R.E.M. did in fact have a song called "I Believe" but it’s a coincidence.) In this case, although it was credited officially to The Seeds, "I Believe" is performed by Sky on vocals, Mike Oak on guitar, bass and vocals, and Patrick McCarthy on drums and vocals.
"I Believe" is pleasant but unremarkable, with a not-quite-finished demo feel about it but some deftly-navigated changes, especially for the guitar solo. Sky Saxon, for his part, is quite enjoying himself at least. “I believe in the dogs, I believe in the children, I believe in the wolves,” he exclaims characteristically. And he did; his passion on "I Believe" is undeniable and it’s Sky who pulls the song up to whatever glory it achieves.
