“Forest Outside Your Door”
by The Seeds
1968 song
Diabolical-sounding even for 1968-era Seeds, "Forest Outside Your Door" is a bummer of a psychedelic horror story. It was released, with fake crowd noises, on the Raw & Alive album, though the original ‘clean’ version was added to the 2-CD expanded version of the album in 2014.
Sky Saxon’s vocal is more melodic than usual on "Forest Outside Your Door" and the melodies he chooses are all frightening. If dark, uncomfortable psychedelia is your thing – and it is, for many fans of The Seeds’ final album – then "Forest Outside Your Door" won’t disappoint.
An early version of this song, when it was still called “Flyin’ With Love”, was attempted a couple of weeks before the well-known version was recorded. This even-darker early version was finally released on the expanded Raw & Alive as well.
