“Beautiful Stars”
by Sky Sunlight And Thee New Seeds featuring Rainbow
1976 song
"Beautiful Stars" is the name of the a-side of a 7-inch single released by Sky Saxon in 1976 on the Expression label. "Beautiful Stars", credited to Sky Sunlight And Thee New Seeds, was in fact the same recording released a year or two earlier as "Diamonds In The Rough" by Sunlight And Thee New Seeds on Emerald Light 8 — the only differences being the song title and artist name, and the fact that the opening guitar chord and Sky Saxon’s spoken line "Diamonds In The Rough" were edited out for "Beautiful Stars".
The song is a lean, punchy rock song, with stinging guitars by Rainbow and lunatic but impassioned ramblings from Sky about the universe and how everyone is a star. It fades out, prematurely to many listeners’ ears, just after the two-minute mark.
