“702”
by Sky Sunlight Saxon and Flights
2006 song
It has a professional rock sound, big guitars crunching out a solid rhythm of power chords. "702", its feel directed by Sky Saxon and performed by multi-instrumentalist Ken Dembinski, gives Sky a chance to sing free-form lyrics about one of his favorite subjects, flying. Specifically, to Trinidad. Why not?
The "702" in the title then is a reference to Flight 702, which Sky heartily recommends. The plane flies through the “powder blue sky” he sings, calling to mind the 2005 track "Star Setter" from the Transparency CD. “Pilot, co-pilot, you know they’re always high,” he maintains stonily. “Stewardess is coming down the aisle, she’s got some special refreshments”.
To be honest, "702" is a welcome moment of levity on the otherwise serious-minded Tyrants In The House CD from 2006. Nice to hear Sky take a break from the apocalyptic warnings and just sing about the naked wonders of inner space.
