“Beautiful Stars” / “Universal Stars”
by Sky Sunlight And Thee New Seeds featuring Rainbow
1976? 7-inch single
Label: Expression [E.X.P.-777]
This is the second release of two zonked-out garage rock recordings that Sky Saxon released a year earlier on another label. There is a minor edit on one side which has resulted in that song name being changed; also the artist credits have been changed on both sides. The “Beautiful Stars” b/w “Universal Stars” 7-inch single was released on black vinyl on the Expression label (E.X.P.-777) in roughly 1976.
Differences between the Expression and Emerald Light 45s
- The A-side, "Beautiful Stars", had been called “Diamonds In The Rough” on the first release on the Emerald Light label. It is in fact the same exact recording with the first few seconds – an opening guitar chord and Sky’s spoken phrase "Diamonds In The Rough" – edited out. (The B-side "Universal Stars" appears unchanged.)
- Where the Emerald Light 45 had two different artist credits, one for each side, this Expression re-release credits both songs to Sky Sunlight And Thee New Seeds featuring Rainbow. Having briefly gone under the name “Sunlight”, Sky couldn’t help himself from at least partially reverting to the names he’d found success with during the 1960s.
Copies of the "Beautiful Stars" b/w "Universal Stars" 7-inch are fairly easy to find for sale unlike the very scarce Emerald Light record.
