Seeds and Sky Saxon discography
Albums, singles, EPs, box sets, tapes and more from The Seeds and from Sky Sunlight Saxon’s various solo and band projects.
Pre-Seeds (~1964)
These are “teen idol” type songs, corny from today’s perspective and arguably then too. But Sky’s nasal whine and audacious confidence are already noticeable, as is his relentless drive for stardom: six singles on six labels with six different artist credits.

The Seeds (1965~1972)
Sky Saxon, Daryl Hooper, Jan Savage and Rick Andridge made up The Seeds, who briefly became stars in Los Angeles and nationally with "Pushin' Too Hard", still one of the most popular garage rock songs of all time. The original band split up in 1968, with different lineups and labels until they finally called it quits.
This section includes official Seeds releases of music recorded 1965~1972, generally from GNP Crescendo or its partners, including latter-day compilations. It doesn’t include other bands that Sky called “The Seeds” after 1972.

Father Yod Years (1973~1980)
Sky joined, on a casual and informal basis, a group of psychedelic new religionists (ok, often referred to as a cult) called the Source Family, led by a guy named Jim Baker who went by Father Yod. The collective, who split their time between California and Hawaii, recorded music and released privately-pressed records under the name Ya Ho Wha 13.
Sky Saxon was not part of these recordings, but did embark on a few projects of his own at the urging of Father Yod. During this time, Sky began using the name “Sunlight”, and was also known in the Source Family as Arelich Aquarian.

Revival (1984~)
Through dogged determination and despite inartful drug-induced lunacy, Sky Saxon clawed his way back to some level of public notoriety beginning in the 1980s with bands such as Fire Wall, Fast Planet, and Dragonslayers. His output fizzled out by the mid-1990s but in 2004 he found new life as an elder statesman of psychedelic garage rock. Throughout these years he released a large number of albums and singles, mostly garage rock or longer meditative psych pieces.

About the twists and turns of Sky Saxon’s discography
Compiling Sky Saxon’s complete discography is a monumental task: he used a huge variety of names for himself and his projects, and much of his output, especially from the 1970s and 1980s, has a mysterious history. Dates, personnel, and other details can be hard to pin down; many releases contain scant liner notes. Furthermore, the internet is full of misinformation about Sky and his releases, and inaccuracies are often handed down from website to website. Time lends a credence to even wildly dubious “facts” that can make untangling the truth challenging.
So this is my attempt at an accurate reflection of Sky Sunlight Saxon’s various releases in a variety of formats — vinyl, CDs, 8-track tapes, MP3 downloads, et cetera. Information is comprised of liner notes, believable websites, interviews, and other hopefully reliable sources.
Note: This list does not include multiple-artist compilations with Sky Saxon or Seeds music (such as Nuggets). There are just too many of them.
There is also the Sky Saxon/Firewall song “Christmas in the Courtroom” on the 1990 V.A. lp, “Stuff This in Your Stocking! Elves in Action”

Thanks for stopping by. Glad you like my website about weird and wonderful Sky!
I appreciate your work in getting the word about Sky and The Seeds out there. Looking forward to seeing the movie.
The basic session for the session featuring Sky Saxon for the Magic Hero vs. Rock People recording of “Acid Greets Yahowha” was recorded on May 30, 2009, with Sky adding additional vocal overdubs about a week later.
I was in touch with Sky and Sabrina during this period leading up to his passing on June 25. Sky was carrying around a video recorder and lots of stuff was taped. I hung out with Sky for a bit at his last show (at Antone’s in Austin) on June 20, which is the last time I saw him. He was unwell but as usual when he took the stage, something took over and he delivered an arresting performance. The exact same group had been onstage performing while everyone was waiting for him … and when he began singing, the room changed.
Sky embodied the ’60s as a true believer, making me realize that the energy from that era was real and not tied to any point in time.
Thanks for adding our record to Sky’s discography, it’s an honor.

the first full length of the seeds were at rca studios, hollywood? or in which recording studio
