…A Groovy Thing
by Sky "Sunlight" Saxon/Fire Wall
1986 album
...A Groovy Thing is the French version of Sky Saxon’s first Fire Wall album, called Destiny's Children in the US. It was issued on the psych-sympathetic label New Rose in 1986, and is now out of print though copies are easy to find.
The cover of ...A Groovy Thing is, it must be said, far more professional-looking than the magic-markered design of Destiny's Children. The photo of a groggy-looking Sky from the US album’s back cover is artfully printed in black and white and appears in a picture frame whose glass has been smashed. The edges are filled with flowers and stems, a nod to Sky’s flower power past.
When purchasing this album, really either the French or the US version will do since they both feature all the same songs; your choice may come down to album cover preference (hey, they both have their supporters) or simple availability. Collectors of course will want both, and neither should set you back too much.
Digital music fans can hunt for a copy of this album on a 2-on-1 CD from 1989 that paired ...A Groovy Thing with the second French Fire Wall album ...In Search Of Brighter Colors. Other than that, ...A Groovy Thing has never seen its own dedicated CD release. Also, I’ve never seen a cassette version of ...A Groovy Thing, unlike Destiny's Children.
