“Spirit Of America”
by Sunlight Rainbow Stars New Seeds
1977 song
After addressing their audience on the spoken "Sunlight's Introduction", the 1977 live album Heavenly Earth kicks off with the new song "Spirit Of America". It’s a one-chord riff, nearly overpowered by a loud electric piano. Sky sings about his friends who have come to free everyone. Drums and Sky’s tambourine are heard only towards the end of "Spirit Of America". As the first introduction to Sky and Rainbow Neal’s so-called Stars New Seeds band, it’s "Spirit Of America" that prompts an indignant crowd member to admonish Sky for his long hippie hair, leading an even more indignant Sky to retort with his infamous "God Rap".
