“Tell Me The Time”
by The Seeds
2008 song
"Tell Me The Time" is tuneful and earnest, but completely un-psychedelic. The 2008 song finds Sky Saxon not just indulging in his Elvis-like croon but positively mimicking the famous lip-curling Vegas superstar. “Ah ha ho ho,” Sky sighs meaningfully in the intro to "Tell Me The Time", sounding like an Elvis impersonator, or a cut-up trying to make his friends laugh at karaoke.
It quickly becomes obvious, however, that Sky is in fact in a moment, not looking for levity but imparting the song’s imploring message – “I pray there will be peace today” – with great solemnity. The music consists only of a strummed acoustic guitar by co-writer Mike Oak. "Tell Me The Time" is the fourth song on the album Back To The Garden and is one of many tracks on the CD to feature Sky Saxon in a different guise than many listeners may be used to. It’s a biiiiig stretch to call this The Seeds but it’s a good look at yet another side of Sky Sunlight Saxon in his later years.
