“World Tribute”
by Sky Sunlight Saxon Dragonslayers SSS
1989 song
With its massively fat guitar sound, "World Tribute" takes up a lot wider space than other Just Imagine songs. Most of the song is made up of two grungy chords, festooned with Farfisa flourishes, that Sky Saxon uses as a base to explore some themes that won’t come as a surprise to his admirers: Dogs sniffing flowers and kangaroos jumping for joy give some indication of his interests on this rambling narrative.
Like "Million Miles", "World Tribute" sounds like the Dragonslayers aping Sky’s previous band Fire Wall – it’s trippy, but in a muscular hair band kind of way. The great thing about it is that two elements come together on it so well: the music is extremely simple and Sky is in a particularly creative mood. His litany of animals and things to be thankful for is a riot, all the more so because the music doesn’t get in the way or distract him.
Look to "World Tribute" for a peek into an appreciative and wholly un-self-conscious Sky Saxon.
