“Wild Blood”
by The Seeds
1969 song
A good-timey rock tune based on The Troggs’ “I Can’t Help Myself”, "Wild Blood" is a beloved song from GNP Crescendo’s final single by The Seeds, the other side of which was the cowboys-on-acid "Fallin' Off The Edge Of My Mind". The Seeds had half crumbled apart by this point, and though Daryl and Sky were still into it, Jan and Rick had been replaced. This session was led by Sky’s LA-hipster friend Kim Fowley. "Wild Blood" doesn’t sound particularly like The Seeds’ work that had gone before but it’s still a hell of a lot of fun.
“I know that I am going to get you,” enunciates Sky with a mixture of cockiness and humor as the band swings in a garage-meets-music-hall kind of way. Showbizzy, but high. Someone (Fowley?) groans broadly in the gap between verse and chorus, lending a sort of playful masculinity to "Wild Blood".
"Wild Blood" was passed over when the 1977 Fallin' Off The Edge LP was being compiled and wouldn’t make it to CD until 1993’s Travel With Your Mind. The best place to get it now – besides a not-particularly-common original 7″ – is the Big Beat CD Singles As & Bs 1965-1970.
